In his speech at the ceremony of commissioning the warehouse area of the Halkalı-Istanbul Airport Metro Line, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu said that they will connect the airport to the center of the city and serve the districts of Küçükçekmece, Başakşehir, Arnavutköy, Eyüp, Kağıthane, Şişli and Beşiktaş on the route. Expressing his satisfaction for crossing another threshold in the activities here, Karaismailoğlu stated that they have completed the warehouse-maintenance parking area that will serve the vehicles of the line they will open soon. Karaismailoğlu stated that there are 8 stations on the 31.5-kilometer-long Halkalı-Istanbul Airport Metro Line, and that they are building Turkey’s fastest metro with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, adding that the airport has achieved a transportation service suitable for the important task it fulfills for Turkey. Karaismailoğlu stated that when the metro line is put into service, it will have the capacity to carry an average of 600 thousand passengers from Halkalı to Istanbul Airport in a fast, comfortable and safe way, and with the commissioning of the line, the journey will take 36 minutes between Arnavutköy and Beşiktaş, and 48 minutes between Başakşehir (Metrokent) and Kağıthane. He stated that it will be 50 minutes between Küçükçekmece and Kemerburgaz. Karaismailoğlu said that the Halkalı-Istanbul Airport Metro Line will be integrated with existing and ongoing lines, making life easier for both the Turkish nation and international guests, offering the highest quality of service and being integrated with many different lines.
“87 percent of the metro line has been completed”
Adil Karaismailoğlu noted that they have been working day and night in the construction of the Halkalı-Istanbul Airport Metro Line, that the main line tunnels of 56 thousand 95 meters in total to be excavated by TBM have been completed and that 100 percent progress has been achieved in the tunnel manufacturing. Noting that a total of 15,908 meters of NATM tunnel excavation has been completed and 100% progress has been made in NATM tunnel manufacturing, Karaismailoğlu stated that they have completed a total of 72,3 meters of tunnel construction. Karaismailoğlu stated that the line superstructure, construction electromechanical and signaling works are continuing at a great pace and they have completed 90 percent of the final reinforced concrete coatings, and said, “We have reached the level of 87 percent in the overall progress of the project. I am very pleased to share with you how it continues.” said.
“The facility will be the brain of Istanbul Airport subways”
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu said that they completed the design and manufacturing of the warehouse area and workshop building of 124 thousand square meters and a capacity of 176 vehicles within the scope of the project, and they completed the warehouse area manufacturing. Sharing information about the characteristics of the warehouse area, Karaismailoğlu continued his words as follows: “The Kağıthane-Istanbul Airport Metro Project, which we are continuing the testing and commissioning processes and which we are preparing to open in the coming days, and the Istanbul Airport-Halkalı Metro Project, which is the 1st stage of the Istanbul Airport-Halkalı Metro Project, which is the continuation of the line. The project section of 9,200 meters between the Warehouse Area will also be commissioned and put into operation. The facility, which has vehicle washing, repair, maintenance, spare parts units, personnel training areas, train parking areas, can perform maintenance and repair on 12 train sets at the same time. It will run the operation together with the warehouse area. We have brought a complex facility to serve Istanbul with offices, meeting halls, technical rooms and other auxiliary facilities to be used by the personnel.The warehouse facility, which we also gave the control center function of Istanbul Airport metro lines, by installing the signaling system here, is also an Istanbul facility. It will be the brain of the airport subways.”

Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that a total of 819 kilometers of urban rail system lines in 12 provinces are under operation, and the Ministry has built more than 345 kilometers of this, “We are continuing our construction work on 152.2 kilometers. Explaining that they have implemented projects focusing on mobility, logistics and digitalization within the framework of the Transportation 2053 Vision, Karaismailoğlu said that they have equipped Istanbul with modern rail system networks from one end to the other. Reminding that they opened the Tavşantepe-Sabiha Gökçen Airport Subway Line on October 2, Karaismailoğlu stated that they continue to work in the megacity on a 6 line, 7 days and 24 hours basis, with a length of 96 kilometers. Karaismailoğlu stated that the rail system network of Istanbul is 270 kilometers at the moment and that they will increase this number to 366 kilometers when the ongoing projects are completed. We will also continue our work that will lead to clean, smart transportation solutions.” he said. Karaismailoğlu stated that they will open the Kağıthane-Istanbul Airport Line, whose signaling certification process continues, in the coming days.
“In 2023, 3 rail systems will be put into service outside of Istanbul”
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu stated that on the Halkalı-Istanbul Airport line, the expert committee of the Ministry met with more than 300 domestic manufacturers one by one and they are working on how to localize the vehicles, and said, “The vehicles that will serve in this project will meet the 60 percent domestic production requirement. For the first time, in this project, Metro trains with locally produced engines will serve in Istanbul. For the first time, the signaling system developed by ASELSAN with domestic and national means and a project supported by our Ministry will be used in our metro line. In addition, we will add 3 new rail system lines to our country outside of Istanbul in 2023. We will open the first phase of the AKM-Gar-Kızılay Metro in Ankara, the Anafartalar-HT Tram Line in Kayseri, and the Gebze Sahil-Darıca OSB metro in Kocaeli within 2023.” he said.

This center, which we are examining today, will serve as the brain of the airport subways and will operate 24/7. From Gayrettepe. They will fully manage our 69-kilometer metro line, which will start from Istanbul Airport and reach Küçükçekmece. These are great and proud jobs. We are opening them one by one to make an investment of nearly 100 billion TL as a metro investment in Istanbul as our Ministry, we continue to work.
